Activision has announced that it will be revamping the user interface (UI) for the Call of Duty franchise in anticipation of the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The UI update is set to roll out in phases, with the first phase beginning on October 21, just days before the launch of Black Ops 6 on October 25.
The updated UI aims to address fan complaints and improve the overall user experience. For the past few years, Call of Duty games have been accessible through a single app called Call of Duty HQ. While some players appreciate the convenience of being able to switch between different Call of Duty titles within a single app, others have found it to be cumbersome and frustrating to use.
Despite the mixed reception, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty HQ will continue to be used for Black Ops 6. However, the good news is that the UI within the app is set for a significant overhaul. Players won't have to wait for the game's release to see the first changes, as phase one of the UI update will go live on October 21.
During this initial phase, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone will be given primary status within the updated UI. Then, on October 25, when Black Ops 6 launches, it will take the spotlight, making it easier for players to access the new game and its modes, including Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.
The final phase of the UI update will coincide with the launch of Season 1, at which point the Battle Pass will be integrated into the UI, and Warzone will receive a new interface similar to that of Black Ops 6.
The new UI is designed to be more manageable, allowing players to easily see which Call of Duty games they have installed and to uninstall those they don't need, which is particularly important given the large file sizes of Call of Duty titles.
It remains to be seen how fans will react to the new UI, especially since the first phase is going live before Black Ops 6 is even released. It's possible that further changes will be made based on player feedback received during this initial rollout.
