Zombies mode is making a triumphant return to the Call of Duty franchise. Players can dive back into the iconic co-op horde mode in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, set for release in October. This marks a return to the round-based PvE formula, a departure from last year’s Modern Warfare 3.
Activision’s latest Zombie Intel drop has detailed how Zombies in Black Ops 6 will work. Classic elements such as enclosed maps, unlockable pathways, power-ups, Perk-a-Colas, and mystery boxes return, offering a familiar experience for long-time fans.
Building upon the popular Cold War Zombies mode from 2020, Black Ops 6 Zombies retcons the events of last year’s Modern Warfare zombie experience. While retaining familiar elements, it introduces new features like the ability to save and return.
“For the first time in Zombies, players can save their single-player game at any point, as long as they're healthy and haven't gone down, died, or actively participated in an exfil,” Activision said. The feature aims to alleviate the always-online requirement of Zombies mode, but has sparked discussions among game critics about how players will approach the mode.
While Zombies is still a co-op experience at its core, the save feature provides more flexibility for solo players. Players can now play at their own pace, without worrying about losing progress.
As players progress through a match, the threat of the undead will increase. Zombies will move faster, hit harder, and exhibit more complex behaviors. To survive, players will need to master their weapons and learn the intricacies of each map.
